These were fun. And toxic looking. But that's what made them so fun. Hey, what's better than a little sugar & a lot of red food dye?

The kids loved them. L-O-V-E-D them.

Two things I learned. 7 min frosting is delish & easy to make. Colored sugar absolutely wrecks the texture of cake. Felt like eating cupcakes at the beach.

What ISN'T there to love about minis?

These are a decadent chocolate mini with the cooked fluffy white frosting from my Red Velvet recipe. I just can't get enough of this frosting. It haunts me day and night. I have fantasies about this frosting. I'll spare you the detail though.

My favorite thing to make are cookies. Not the pretty ones like over at Crafted Cookies. That takes talent AND patience. The kind I like are barely sweet and succulent and a little bit ugly, in a yummy kind of way. Perfect for a stolen 5 min break with hot tea.

Vanilla Lavender Cake

A moist sweetness like nothing you'd ever imagine. The lavender, found in the cake and used as a garnish on top, adds a slight fragrance and taste that is really only a hint, just enough to tickle the senses.

Kimberly & I made strawberry mini muffins to drop off at her physical therapist's office. We used fresh strawberry puree which gave them a nice pink color instead of the chunks of fresh strawberries seen in the previous strawberry muffin post.

One of the reasons we love muffins is their ability to be just sweet enough without going overboard. A perfect pair to your morning cup of coffee.

Strawberry Mini Tarts

These smart little tarts are made with chocolate cookie crumbs, layered with ganache and strawberry buttercream. The strawberry buttercream tastes like homemade strawberry ice cream. I used as much fresh strawberry puree as I could get in there. The resulting creation was sinful in a way that only a tart can be.

Here's a bonus. Our lead taste tester enjoying these cute little nuggets of delight.

I met Chrysta over at Kiss My Bundt via Twitter. She is awesome and immediately suggested we go visit some bakery/restaurant supply stores in L.A. So we did!

First stop:
Gloria's Cake & Candy Supplies

And while Gloria's was a wonderful wonderland of sprinkles and pans and cupcake liners we were done quite early. So Kim & I looked at each other, threw time and caution to the wind and decided to go for the other stop Chrysta had suggested - Surfas.

I'll stop right there because just writing that name gives me butterflies. I'm talking first kiss butterflies. I'm talking roller coaster fun butterflies. I have to concentrate on breathing to continue this post.

Vanilla for miles...oh my. Kimberly almost lost me at this point. I think I stopped breathing.

I didn't even get pictures of the test kitchen or the sprinkles or the cheese selection. I barely made it out of there. I had visions of grabbing a sleeping bag and moving in. I can't stop talking about it. People are looking at me like I'm nuts. I am nuts.

One last stop! KISS MY BUNDT! We just had to meet Chrysta and see her shop, which are both unbelievably cute and inspiring!

Mint Chip Delights

These were made for a 15 year old's birthday. I was thinking about how mint chip ice cream is the perfect teenager treat. A little bit kid, with the chips and a little bit grown up, with the mint. So here is my attempt at making it in cupcake form.

Very Yummy Not So High Hats

These are High Hat cupcakes. Like a chocolate dipped, marshmallow filled dream. Seriously. I'm learning about the candy thermometer thing so the marshmallow filling didn't get as stiff as it is supposed to so I couldn't pipe it as high as it should go. These are supposed to be HIGH Hats. But they were oh so sinfully good. And with all the rave reviews, these will definitely be repeated in the future.
